Summertime | London to Paris

Posted in Features by thesandwichclub on January 11, 2011

Recently scrolling through some pictures on my mobile phone I came across some sandwich eating antics from last summer. Here is a selection of pictures that were taken on a cycle ride from London to Paris in an attempt to raise money for Cancer Research UK and the Alzheimer’s society.

The night before the ride consisted of eating plenty of carbohydrates.

Once into France the sandwich selection got very exciting. One of the most iconic French sandwiches and an absolute staple, the most welcomed croque monsieur.

This sandwich was consumed after a previous day’s ride of 100 miles and took less than 2 minutes to devour. Similarly, breakfast consisted of more French fancy by way of croissants with plenty of jam (preferably of the blackcurrant kind). Carbs and sugar were the preferred energy providers.

I shared a box of flapjacks for the journey with my friend and they really did the trick in times of need. Although I did give the body fuel nutrition drinks a go, it was the flapjacks that provided the taste sensation I craved and the energy to ride which made me most happy.

The end goal. London to Paris done! Over £2000 was raised for the charities which was fantastic. Thanks to Mike R, Mike J, Ian and Tim for some good times.
